Long synopsis (optional):
This talk is a look at what it actually takes to successfully transform into a more agile organisation. (Spoiler alert: it's neither hiring more agile frame works specialists, nor mandating your teams' working practices!) This talk will cover all five of the key things you need to do for a successful agile journey. You need to step through them all, in turn, to release agility in your organisation. Bringing in agile practices in the form of Scrum, Kanban, SAFe or LESS isn't even in the top 3 steps .... and this is why so many transformations fail. In all good faith, we emphasise introducing and embedding these frameworks throughout the organisation, without building the solid foundations they need to deliver the outcome and be successful. We will cover all five of the key steps you need to go through, in turn, to achieve a successful agile journey and to release agility in your organisation. First, we'll talk about getting clarity on the reason why agile transformation is a priority for the business. It is an expensive and painful endeavour, so the rewards need to be clear and valuable. We'll go on to talk about why the company isn't already working in agile ways. This may seem counterintuitive, but if it really is such an excellent idea, why aren't we already doing it? What has been holding them back? Agile transformation needs to take place at all levels of the organisation - look at your team and ask yourself: are these the people to get it done? We will explore how agile coaches and transformers are often working very hard, but not always at the optimal level in the organisation. We will talk briefly about agile behaviours - this is the space that most of us work in, as members of teams or coaching teams to adopt agile practices and behaviours. We will then wrap up talking about what it means to inspect and adapt as an organisation. How we will, as a business be better tomorrow? And are we all clear what constitutes ‘better’? Agile leadership is about understanding what every level of the organisation needs from each other. It also includes making sure you, as a manager, director or even as the CEO, knows what your organisation needs of you. And of course delivering on it. That way, businesses transform into organisations that behave in an agile way, following an agile strategy and living a culture that continuously releases agility.
