Title:
Size Matters: Estimating in Scrum
Short synopsis:
Sizing and estimating are activities that many Scrum teams will do. However, I have seen a level of confusion in my teams about why to size, how to size, what units to use etc. etc. It can be hard to teams for understand why we size and how we do it. This interactive workshop aims to cover the “why”, the “how” and the “what if” of sizing, to give people real, hands-on experience of relative sizing in a group.

Long synopsis (optional):
Sizing and estimating are activities that many Scrum teams will do. However, I have seen a level of confusion in my teams about why to size, how to size, what units to use etc. etc. It can be hard for teams to understand why we size and how we do it. This interactive workshop aims to cover the “why”, the “how” and the “what if” of sizing, to give people real, hands-on experience of relative sizing in a group. We will cover the differences between absolute and relative sizing, the use of the Fibonacci sequence and the reasoning behind this, and the purpose of sizing for velocity and forecasting. This is an interactive, hands-on session that will allow you to practice the techniques and prove the reasoning behind them. At the end of the session, you will be able to describe why we use relative sizing, why we use abstract units of size and you will have hands-on experience of sizing in a team.
