Talk description
Title:
Using Design Thinking to Create Test Cases
Short synopsis:
Creating good test cases can be described as an art. The testing team should be part of the Discovery phase and business objectives should dictate the design of the test cases. But how can we ensure that we are focusing on the user and bringing the highest possible value added? We will introduce the concept of “Design Thinking”, as it relates to Tests and the Dev Cycle, starting with practical exercises: selecting the persona, knowing her effectively and mapping the user's journey, identifying their pains. In the end, we will create test cases for happy and unhappy paths.

Long synopsis (optional):
Creating good test cases can be described as an art. With Agile, Test Driven Development (TDD), Behavior Driven Development (BDD), testing teams are usually (or should be) part of the project discovery and design phase and business objectives should dictate test case design. But how can we ensure that we are focusing on the user and bringing the highest possible value added at this stage? In this workshop, we will introduce the concept of “Design Thinking”, how the Design Thinking framework relates to Testing and the Development Cycle and then how to effectively use it in the design phase of your project. Next, we'll do hands-on exercises to effectively show you how to best frame business guidelines, correctly select the persona (user), know you effectively, and then map the user's journey. After understanding the user's journey, we will identify the pains and create test cases for happy and unhappy paths. We will finish by explaining how to make your own workshop, selecting the team ensuring diversity, materials needed and how to create the agenda correctly. After the workshop, the team will be knowledgeable and empowered to conduct a Design Thinking workshop achieving greater user value and as a result of user-focused test cases.
