Long synopsis (optional):
Reinventing the wheel sounds so appealing! Maybe not to you, but to many engineers out there. Unfortunately, while some developers are driven by a genuine enjoyment of trying out a new tool, many developers want to use a new tool simply because it will look good on their resume. It is a well-known fact that adding buzzwords like microservices, blockchain, or kubernetes attracts more attention than those banners asking you to acknowledge website collection of your cookies. In this talk, we will discuss how to empower your team to prototype with new technologies while avoiding negative effects like maintenance cost. We will learn how to prioritize learning and to keep your team interested in the project at hand instead of building their resumes with a hope to jump ship as soon as possible.
