Long synopsis (optional):
Technologies move fast. So fast that we can’t predict what will happen a year, or two in the future. This was one of the fundamental reasons why Waterfall has become a thing of the past for many teams. However, the change of IT industry continues to accelerate. Now, even predicting two weeks ahead might be detrimental to the team’s success. With the abundance of Continuous Delivery and user expectations of an immediate response, our workflow should be moving towards Real-Time development as well. This is where Data Driven thinking comes in. With the use of data and focus on continuous improvement, teams can shift their thinking towards constant, Real-Time improvements rather than premature planning. As engineers who are notoriously bad at estimates, methodologies such as Agile put them in an unnecessary box which only causes frustration with underdelivery or failed deadlines. In this talk, we will talk about using benchmarking and Continuous Measurements of the teams in order to align Continuous Improvement process with Continuous Delivery of the modern teams. The main takeaways will include common mistakes made during the transition, as well as showing the audience that this new methodology is not a silver bullet for every problem and might not be the right fit for everyone.
