Talk description
Title:
The Neon Future - Where might we be heading with team structures, practices and cultures?
Short synopsis:
In the future teams might be structured differently... In the future teams might work with different practices... In the future teams might have different cultures... The one thing we know for sure is that we don’t know the future, but we can look at the data, make predictions, and looking for trends. This interactive workshop will assess the views of the attendees and compare this with the results and views of a number of external reference points. This talk is about the types of team structure, practice, and culture changes we are expecting to face in the next 3 to 10 years. This is a timeframe in which lots of the original agilists are going to be bowing out, and the next wave of change is going to be coming through. This is a timeframe that will see the wholesale change in organisation leadership from the Baby Boomers / Gen X to Millennials / Gen Z and the associated changes in expectations. The changes discussed cover how teams might be structured (e.g. team size, team distribution, team dispersion etc), the practices that they might be using (e.g. Scrum, Kanban, Scaled XYZ etc), and the organisation cultures in which they might reside (e.g. Big Corporate, Start-up, Teal etc). The talk is delivered in three sections. Each section gives the workshop attendees the opportunity to participate and show their views on the core topics, and this is followed by a summary of the research into the trends in the subjects. I have run this workshop with a group of approximately 100 people at our internal company conference and got very good feedback on both the interactive and thought provoking nature of the talk.
