Short synopsis:
When we moved to a dual-track delivery approach for our Bank of New Zealand Product teams, it felt more like Dueling tracks. People knew why we were doing it but were confused about how to link discovery and delivery. Who should do what, when and how? It became a clash of collective egos, stepping on each other’s areas of expertise. This is about how we brought clarity, alignment and direction to those teams by creating a Product Management playbook and how it had a profound effect on how we work and communicate with one other.

This talk comes from the time I spent as Head of Practices for Bank of New Zealand (BNZ), where we looked to move from an efficient way of delivery using backlogs, to an efficient and effective way using dual track delivery. By creating a Product Playbook and focussing on the language of why we do what we do, rather than frameworks and practices and language that focussed on the what we do, we brought people and disciplines together. Digital delivery, financial product managers, UX researchers and designers, marketing and execs. We looked at mashing Design thinking, Lean and agile together. This is a 45 minute presentation 1.
