Talk description
Title:
Nobody needs an Agile Transformation
Short synopsis:
As Agilists at conferences such as this we meet in an echo chamber, speaking the language of the Agility. However this isn’t the language of the C-Suite and so can result in conflict or miss-set expectations. How do we avoid this? The fact is that agility is a means to an end, not an end in itself. We will look at framing the transformation in the language of business outcomes and consider the role of both transformational leadership and organisational model in the success of the transformation.

Long synopsis (optional):
As Agilists at conferences such as this we meet in an echo chamber, speaking the language of the Agile world. However this isn’t the language of the C-Suite and this can often result in conflict, or, at best miss-set expectations. The fact is that agility is not an end in itself, it’s a means to an end. In this session we will look at framing the transformation in the language of outcomes for the user and consider the role of transformational leadership and the organisational model in the success of that transformation. The background to this session arises from a collaboration in 2019 with Software Cornwall exploring the role of leadership in transforming organisations. We discuss how we can align expectations by looking at the causes of miscommunication, and looking at the view of agile transformations from the boardroom, identifying what the board needs to know and how agilists can engage with the C-suite to get consensus on shared goals. Within this we will consider outcome driven thinking and the use of Outcome Key Results (OKRs) to quantify your transformation We will then look at the role of transformational leaders and their approach to organisational transformation, the business case for agility and how the combination of iterative implementation, Shu Ha Ri and situational leadership plays a key part in the success of these transformations. The moral of the story is that in order to succeed, organisations in transformation focus on outcomes and need transformational leaders to guide them on that journey.
