Talk description
Title:
"Memory is a complicated thing, a relative to truth, but not its twin". How have we built Agile mythology?
Short synopsis:
You have probably heard a lot of Agile myths. Some of them made you smile, some of them you believed in. Usually we try to contradict the myths and explain inaccuracies but sometimes we feel rather like tilting at windmills than straightening reality. Instead of trying to be Don Kichot of Agile, let's try to understand WHY these myths are continuously coming back. The talk presents studies on people's memory, capability to remember and learn and how they contribute to building Agile mythology.

Long synopsis (optional):
"We are Agile, we don't need documentation", "In Agile we don't have to plan anymore", "Kanban? Yes, we have a board", "Scrum is only for startups". You have probably heard these myths. And more. Many, many more. Some of them made you smile, some of them you believed in, some… maybe you still believe? Usually we, as people feeling responsibility for sharing knowledge about Agile methods, frameworks and practices, try to contradict the myths and explain inaccuracies and many times we may feel rather like tilting at windmills than really straightening reality. Instead of trying to be Don Kichot of Agile community, let's try to understand WHY these myths are continuously coming back and popping up in the discussions around Agile. In my talk I will present studies on people's memory, capability to remember, store memories and… learn. Starting from Plato, through Nietzsche and Ebbinghaus, till modern psychologists, I will show, why we remember the things, we do, and how it influences the modern mythology we create around topics common and important to all of us. I would like to also start a discussion on how we, as Agile community, can consciously form the way we talk about Agile and share the knowledge about it.
