Talk description
Title:
"A process went to a doctor ..." How to cure process without harming people
Short synopsis:
"I don’t know, what to do.” “I’m overburdened.” All of the statements above are red flags and call for help. People loose motivation and energy, when they don’t know which direction to go. If they ask for help, I propose to start with STATIK: System Thinking Approach to Implementing Kanban. Through the set of logical steps STATIK helps people to find a specific, team-customized solution. I will share the experience of multiple teams for which STATIK became a “wow” moment and light in the tunnel.

Long synopsis (optional):
"I don’t know, what to do.” I hear this helpless statement pretty often. “I’m overburdened.” “I don't want to talk to them!” All of the statements above are red flags and call for help. People loose motivation and energy, when they don’t know which direction they should go or how to cooperate to improve. If they ask for help, I propose the method, which helped many teams I had a chance to work with. It’s called STATIK: System Thinking Approach to Implementing Kanban. Even, if it says explicitly “Kanban”, the method is primarily about understanding, where you are and what your problem is. The power of STATIK is hidden in its simplicity and methodical approaching the problematic state, in which team exists. Through the set of logical steps, it helps people to digest issues and find a specific, team-customized solution. Additionally, gathering the whole team in one place for a discussion becomes the first catalyzing activity in a stalemate situation. I would like to share the experience of working with multiple teams from classical developers, through maintenance and infrastructure groups, to business teams. At some point all of them felt a deep need for improvement and moving forward and all of them went with me through STATIK exercise: some of them doing the full cycle, some of them just figuring out the way to fight the crisis. I will explain what we did and what were the “wow!” moments for them in discovering the true nature of problems they had to face. And, finally, how people – working together – were able to remove the obstacles out of their way.
