Title:
Communicate with Impact - An Agile Leadership Masterclass
Short synopsis:
Agile relies on effective communication. Agile leaders must be able to convey ideas clearly and show teams how to give concise 'daily stand-up' updates. They need to convince business leaders and motivate technical teams. In this Masterclass you will see how some of the best leaders communicate and then explore what works best for your own leadership style.

Long synopsis (optional):
Agile leaders expect Agile teams to take the initiative. To self manage and to be T-shaped. To operate confidently outside their role and to take the initiative. But what do these teams need of their leaders? Are their leaders comfortable in the new more loosely defined world where informal communication channels are critical to success. Laurence first spoke 20 years ago at a conference in London. It was terrible. He read from a script but lost his way. His PowerPoint slides detracted from what he was trying to say. He didn’t enjoy it and would rather forget about it. His audience almost certainly did. Happily today Laurence enjoys speaking at conferences and marketing events and he gets great feedback. He runs hands-on workshops and leads successful AgilePM(TM) training courses. Teams and leaders who he coaches enjoy his engaging style and interact with him and with each other to maximum effect. So what changed? In 2014 Laurence met an actor and coach called Boo. In just one day Boo changed the way Laurence approached every aspect of speaking. Using media training techniques enjoyed by international sports professionals he showed Laurence how to stop talking and start communicating. How to make a real impact on an audience of one or of one thousand. He even stopped him from saying “urm”! Today Laurence conveys to Agile Leaders what he learned from Boo and helps them to apply it to their own Agile environment. Knowing how to make an impact means we get listened to when we have an idea or a concern. Or when we need to motivate a team or to update everyone when the subject is less than thrilling. As we know, individuals and interactions are key to Agile success. Join this masterclass to try for yourself. Working in pairs we will explore techniques for improving our personal impact and find a few that best suit our own style to take away and try. Ideal for want-to-be conference speakers, 'Heads of', Scrum Masters, Product Owners or any Agile leader wanting to communicate convincingly.
