Title:
The Only Outcome That Matters: How Well Meaning Agilists Are Missing the Point
Short synopsis:
How many now bankrupt startups had great, people focused cultures? Great cultures are good but alone they do not guarantee success. Instead, we need to get real and talk about applying Agile to the only outcome that matters; growing a profitable business. Over the years we’ve fallen victim to mistaking the benefits of success for the things that made them successful. How do we fix this? Well, we don’t, we start over. During this session, we’ll explore why market dominance enables Agility and how to apply these concepts to your company’s context. So, let’s get real, a tad dispassionate and redirect Agile back to the only outcome that matters.

Long synopsis (optional):
How many now bankrupt startups had great, people focused cultures? Indeed, great cultures are good but alone they do not guarantee success. Instead, we need to get real and talk about applying Agile to the only outcome that matters; growing a profitable business. But why should that be a revelation? In short, well-meaning Agilists missed the point and fell victim to mistaking the benefits of success for the things that made them successful. All too often we tend to focus on fetishizing ‘failure’, building environments of transparency, better engaging team members, and decentralizing decision making. All these things are great, but all these things are byproducts, not antecedents. So how do we fix this? Well, we don’t, we start over. During this session, we’ll explore why market dominance enables Agility (and not the other way around) and how to apply these concepts to your company’s context. For instance, Disruption is more fashionable than it is effective—(i.e. Google and Microsoft having been ‘cold waring’ products and services for years to no decisive outcome.) Further, participants will have the opportunity to evaluate their own competitive landscape and lay the groundwork to break free from their competition. So, let’s get real, a tad dispassionate and redirect Agile back to the only outcome that matters.
