Talk description
Title:
What is your Backlog telling you about your Product?
Short synopsis:
Do you want to know where your product is in its lifecycle? How well are you doing against our competitors? What should be working on next? How do I get my stakeholders to back a development direction that they have not come up with? All of the above questions and many others can be answered by learning to listen to the messages that are contained within the backlog. By understanding the type of items you should have on your backlog and how they relate to the overall products growth and possible death you will be better placed to keep your product healthy and viable in the long term.

Long synopsis (optional):
We will start with a brief overview of the product lifecycle. Followed by an overview of where you should be getting most of the ideas from and how this differs over the life of a product. We will then discuss the different types of items that you should have on your backlog and the items that tend to be mistakenly on a backlog, which are effectively the residual tail we have retained from previous ways of working/thinking. We will then bring it all together by mapping the composition of the backlog to the product lifecycle and how to conduct a product health check that will enable you to maintain its viability over the long term.
