Title:
Product discovery hacks
Short synopsis:
Creating a product or service from scratch which works for your users and achieves your business goals is really hard. One of the best ways to improve the odds in your favour is to use effective product discovery techniques to reduce business, user and technical risks and uncertainty. In this session I will share the techniques I’ve found most effective from coaching product teams in organisations like the National Trust, the Department of Health, the Department for Education as well as companies and startups in the private sector.

Long synopsis (optional):
Creating a product or service from scratch which works for your users and achieves your business goals is really hard. One of the best ways to improve the odds in your favour is to use effective product discovery techniques to reduce business, user and technical risks and uncertainty. In this session I will share the product discovery techniques I’ve found most effective from coaching product teams in organisations like the National Trust, the Department of Health, the Department for Education as well as companies and startups in the private sector. This will include things like - How to focus your discovery work on answering the most important questions that will reduce the risk of building a product/service that nobody wants or isn’t technically feasible or financially viable. - How to bring the right people together and get them collaborating effectively - and why discovery is different to other phases of work - How to avoid common product discovery anti-patterns like using a discovery to confirm a preconceived solution. - Why you should be speaking to potential customers every week and ways to do that with a small team and limited budget - How to visualise your findings to build a shared understanding of the problem and what you’ve learnt about your users, your goals and your organisations context and constraints - How to look after yourself and your team during discovery and make sure everyone stays happy and healthy - Why you should always be using product discovery techniques and how to build these into the way you work How to get stakeholders to buy into the discovery process and the outcomes
