Title:
Burn it all down!: Lessons learned from tearing down and rebuilding environments
Short synopsis:
We have all seen it before. That one application that you have prodded in just the right way to make it work. And now that it is working -- nobody ever wants to touch it again! This is the absolute worst case scenario for anyone that needs to maintain your application. The last thing you want to do is be afraid of your infrastructure. What we should be focused on is breaking it down into manageable pieces that are easy to rinse and repeat to get rid of this fear! Today we will talk about the value in intentionally tearing down and rebuilding your infrastructure and applications. Providing the right processes and building a culture that embraces infrastructure-as-code (IaC) you can easily rid yourselves of single-point-of-failures and fragile components in your application deployments. We will cover strategies, practices involved, problems you may uncover, and the positive end results from empowering your teams with these tools. We will wrap up by providing some examples of these practices as we have implemented it for our own use at the Red Hat Open Innovation Labs, and provide a demonstration of successful use of IaC with customer residencies.
