Short synopsis:
The Agile transformation at Cornwall Council Information Services is well underway, but with a really big team and an old and traditional organisation we have had to approach this with care…. So how have we configured ourselves in order to maintain momentum for the years to come? And how do we ensure consistent leadership team focus? The answer is….. Agile! and we can offer the following advice to others about to embark on a similar journey (see long synopsis)

The Agile transformation at Cornwall Council Information Services is well underway, but with a really big team and an old and traditional organisation we have had to approach this with care…. So how have we configured ourselves in order to maintain momentum for the years to come? And how do we ensure consistent leadership team focus? The answer is….. Agile! and we can offer the following advice to others about to embark on a similar journey (see long synopsis) • Using low tech Agile methods to retain focus and drive cultural change, learning and collaboration – Boards, Retros etc This has been successful because this isn’t led by the Software Engineers, consultants or newly hired scrum masters, the leadership team were the first Scrum! • No closed doors. In fact, nothing in meeting rooms so the leadership team succeeds or fails in public, exactly the same as any other new team on the journey! • Swarming blockers and refining the backlog continuously, as a team, in twice weekly Stand-ups • Reviewing and adapting the Target Operating Model at regular intervals – and treating things we assumed earlier in the process as things that can be altered • Iteratively improving and sharing the processes in weekly comms updates to the team • Changing vocabulary gradually as the whole team builds their skills and the transformation gains momentum!
