Short synopsis:
"I'll be happy once <I get this done/I get a promotion/I change job/etc>". How many times have you said something like this? We think happiness comes from success, but science has proven that it's the other way around: being happy makes us more successful. Happiness has huge benefits on our professional life. Let me show you how we can help our teams be happier and achieve more, using some science and practical exercises.

Long synopsis (optional):
"I'll be happy once <I get this done/I get a promotion/I change job/I buy a new car/etc>". How many times have you said something like this? We think happiness comes from success, but science has proven that it's the other way around: being happy makes us successful. Happiness has huge benefits on most aspects of our lives, including the professional one. So how can we be happy? Well, turns out we can quite easily "trick" our brain into being happy(er). In this session I will explain why happiness is so important at work, mentioning several studies that have explored this problem. I will show the audience a number of practical exercises and techniques that I use with my team to improve our happiness and that have made us a lot more successful. ========================================= Notes for organisers: During the talk I make the audience do a few exercises, so there is a good amount of interaction. I’ve done this talk a few times before, both internally at my company and at http://2017.agiletourlondon.co.uk/Session/the-science-of-happiness/ . Every time it has been very well received, and the feedback has been extremely positive. The slides I used are here (although I’d probably adapt them for this conference): https://www.slideshare.net/mattiabattiston/the-science-of-happiness-75614838 Here’s the video of a shorter version of this talk (I only had 25 minutes): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=atVEj47cB9g If needed I can adapt the talk into a shorter/longer timeframe
