Talk description
Title:
Pair Testing to Break Down Silos
Short synopsis:
Project managers and the tracking tools they use can silo work in unproductive ways. Items get assigned to particular individuals. The space between user stories or teams make it harder to focus on building working software. Rather than pointing fingers, let’s work together in an environment where risks can be uncovered and problems can be resolved. Let’s practice pairing. In a paired, exploratory test session, individuals can stop trying to assign blame and demonstrate how they learn and make decisions instead. Everyone comes away understanding of the unexpected behavior and risks. It's important to create a supportive environment that takes the pressure off so both participants has space to generate creative ideas. I'll give examples of tricky situations, and we’ll practice how to find a way out of them, like when someone: - Doesn't know where to start, or how to continue - Has trouble articulating their thoughts - Speaks in the theoretical rather than the concrete - Misses obvious bugs - Remains confident in the face of contradictory evidence
