Talk description
Title:
Introducing Agile to a 432-year-old Organisation
Short synopsis:
Oxford University Press (OUP) was founded in 1586 and is the largest department of the University of Oxford, which was founded around 1096. Last year, working in 52 countries, OUP published over 15,000 titles in 102 languages in both digital and print, selling them in 190 countries across the world. OUP recently launched an Agile initiative across all of its technology projects, and in a short space of time there are now over twenty Scrum teams delivering change across projects in the UK, Asia, North America and Australia. This is the story of how we did it, the lessons we learned, and the progress we’ve made in revolutionising delivery in this historic organisation.

Long synopsis (optional):
Oxford University Press (OUP) was founded in 1586 and is the largest department of the University of Oxford, which was founded around 1096. Last year, working in 52 countries, OUP published over 15,000 titles in 102 languages in both digital and print, selling them in 190 countries across the world. While OUP has seen a lot of change throughout the centuries, the pace of change has increased dramatically in the last few decades - largely driven by technology and the digital revolution - making it an opportunity for this publisher to take a fresh approach to its technology development.
