Better User Stories Through Example Mapping
Short synopsis:
We often struggle when it comes to figuring out exactly how we should work together, as testers, developers, and business analysts. Three Amigos gets thrown around a lot as an idea: one to build, one to enquire, one to specify. But how do we actually run a three amigos session so that everyone gets their ideas across and we gain genuine shared understanding? During this session, you'll learn to use Example Mapping; a simple and quick technique for effective results.

Long synopsis (optional):
We often struggle when it comes to figuring out exactly how we should work together, as testers, developers, business analysts, and product owners. Three Amigos gets thrown around a lot as an idea: one to build, one to enquire, one to specify. But how do we actually run a three amigos session so that everyone gets their ideas across and we gain genuine shared understanding? That's tricky. During this session, you'll learn to use Example Mapping; a simple, easy, and quick technique to bring everyone together for effective results. * A brief (interactive) conversation about shared understanding and alignment in teams, and the problems we see when they don't exist. (5-10 minutes) * A very brief introduction to user stories, (3-5 minutes) * An introduction to example mapping and how it's used (Stories, Rules, Examples, Questions) (5 minutes) * In groups, get people to come up with their first examples for a given Rule. (10-15 minutes) * As a whole, discuss what worked and what felt weird. Feedback. (3-5 minutes) * In the same groups, get people to generate new Rules, Stories, and Questions, as well as examples. Encourage them to try new Example formats. This ends in a completed Map. (15 minutes). * As a whole, discuss the characteristics of a Map (too big, too many questions etc). (10 minutes) * Have half the people switch to another group, to see how they can quickly share knowledge, and question the map. (10 minutes.) * Conclusion and questions (until done.)
