Talk description
Title:
Delivering incremental value
Short synopsis:
It’s right at the core of the agile principles, yet many of us struggle to do it. We often have more excuses for why we can’t do it than ideas for how to achieve it. I’m talking about actually delivering incremental value. I’ll go back to basics, right to the principles. We will talk about the pitfalls and how to avoid them. And then we will test our thinking with our favourite tools and processes.

Long synopsis (optional):
It’s right at the core of the agile principles, yet many of us struggle to do it. We often have more excuses for why we can’t do it than ideas for how to achieve it. I’m talking about actually delivering incremental value. In this session we will go right back to basics and look at some of the principles from the Agile Manifesto. We will compare the intent with what we actually do and challenge our thinking. We have a host of tools we often use in our teams to 'slice' work and to keep the focus on the user. We have personas, story mapping, design sprints and post-its coming out of our ears. We have skilled people. We have great ideas. It's possible we even deliver weekly or daily or hourly. If you already use some of these tools and still haven't quite managed to - Satisfy the customer early - Respond to change - Measure value created - Know when we’re “done” - Work at a sustainable pace - Give attention to technical excellence - Maximise amount of work not done come along and challenge your thinking with us. Come to this session for a reminder of the principles. To get a dash of 'how not to do it'. To explore the problem before designing the solution. And practice your tools to be more likely to deliver incremental value in the future.
