Talk description
Title:
Thank You Donald Rumsfeld! - Managing Uncertainty
Short synopsis:
Agile projects differ from traditional projects in several ways. Most of the differences are plain to see and well understood by the Agile community. However, one significant difference is often not well understood. We move forward into build well before our design is complete. People know this, but do they plan for the challenge this causes or just hope for it all to be magically completed with emergent thinking? Amazingly, Donald Rumsfeld - ex US Secretary of Defence - knew the answer!

Long synopsis (optional):
Uncertainty management is a discipline that isn't covered well in the Agile texts we read. Some people believe that there is less design in Agile projects because we don't do that big up front document. Of course there is probably more design in a good Agile project. Uncertainty management allows the known, unresolved issues we would normally attempt (and fail) to resolve in the big up front design to be addressed in an ordered and controlled way. This talk discusses how to plan and manage the resolution of Uncertainty and some of the strategies that can be taken to achieve this.
