Talk description
Title:
Experimental Agile
Short synopsis:
I want to tell the story of a transition I worked on recently to a more experimental way of delivering product. A process with a single concept at its heart. The concept that all products are either solving an emotional or practical human need. Therefore to make great products we must create positive human outcomes. The only way to know if you are creating outcomes to continually experiment and measure the results. How did we make this move? Why did we make this move? What problems did we face?

Long synopsis (optional):
Ok so nobody in their right mind would do this. Or would they? We do something very similar to software engineers. We recruit for talented problem solvers who will come up with creative solutions then we tell them what solution they should create and measure them on their ability to deliver it. Agility has gone some way to address this by aiming to create engaged, self-organising teams. I say aiming as many situations I’ve witnessed have still largely left solution decisions at the Product Owner and stakeholder level. Implementation of solution has been delegated to the technologists. The process we've implemented asks everyone involved to view all potential change as experimentation. Solution thinking tends to close off peoples minds and focus primarily on achieving the current change rather than measuring the efficacy of the outcome. We look to encourage each team to function as its own organisation. Owning the product and more importantly the insight into the people that consume it.
