Long synopsis (optional):
I'm a scrum master for NPR's Digital Media group, focused more on traditional software development projects, but I also recently had the opportunity to work with our News Operations team. They're primarily focused on the logistical challenges of supporting an active newsroom, regular programming, and of course breaking news, so it was very different than what I was used to! However, once I spent some time with the team, I discovered that a lot of their challenges actually felt pretty familiar. I was able to adapt Agile principles and practices including discovery/user research, standup meetings, and workflow boards to help them streamline workflows, improve communication, and have a better understanding of their and their teammates's work and priorities. In this talk, I'll share what I learned about the piece of Agile that were applicable to the newsroom, and the pieces that definitely didn't work!
