Join us for post-it note wars and defeat Darth Vader armed only with a sharpie. What makes a good leader? What makes a bad one? Explore attribute of influential leaders in this fun and collaborative, fully hands-on workshop. This creative session invites participants to translate deeper understanding of behaviour traits into leadership context. This workshop is designed to suit all interested in developing collaborative, open and effective behaviours. It is designed for everyone, at any level - whether you’ve never heard of agile before or you’re a seasoned professional. It is well suited to those embarking on their own personal agile behaviour journey and for those looking to develop leadership understanding. You will explore and gain understanding around the interplay of behaviour attributes and how they influence a group and its effectiveness. You will be able to identify a variety of agile behaviours and how they align to roles in an agile context. Within small groups, we will reflect on our own personal behaviour patterns and identify target improvements.

Long synopsis (optional):
The workshop is a group activity involving the exploration of productive and positive behaviour through the safe lens of well known public characters and their perceived behaviour, both good and bad. The session is highly interactive, so simply come with an open mind and a willingness to participate in open and honest group discussions. The workshop will progress to look at roles within agile teams and how these roles require appropriate behaviour characteristics to be more effective. Participants will have the opportunity to reflect on their own personal development and leadership qualities and to practice active listening to share reflections on their own intended continual improvement. I have been running this workshop now for circa 7 years inside two separate organisations where I was helping embed concepts of leadership in an agile environment where command and control dominated. It has always gone down well with people at any level, even up to senior executive. It’s original and a different way to identify our own leadership styles and where we would like to develop them to help support us in a more collaborative, empowered environment. This year I tested it at a meetup in Scotland and received really positive and encouraging feedback from the agilist and non-agilist in the room. The workshop has been tried and tested many times. Exercise running order: - Activity instruction and getting started (5 minutes) - Group character and leadership attributes mapping (10 minutes) - Personal leadership attributes mapping (10 minutes) - Behaviour attributes of agile roles (5 minutes) - Personal behaviour reflection and active listening (10 minutes) - Leadership shifting responsibilities to knowledge workers (10 minutes) - Questions and clean up (10 minutes) Thank you and I look forward to hearing back from you about this proposal.
