Talk description
Title:
Clownban
Short synopsis:
How do use kanban to build and market test a product? using your own hands and creativity, this highly interactive workshop will see you build and market test a product that is fun for all the family. We will be building and collaborating in a multiple team setting to bring ideas to life, and use customer feedback to test and learn using kanban to bring visualisation and focus across complicated dependencies as we build and deploy an integrated product. This workshop is suited to those who have little to no knowledge of kanban AND for those looking for a fun and new way to teach Kanban. We invite you to participate and plagiarise at will. We will share the pack and train the trainer note to anyone interested following the session. Learning outcomes Participants will: - Apply kanban principles in a product ideation and development environment to gain a deeper understanding of: - Flow - Visualising the work - Feedback - Transparency - Systems thinking - Collaboration - Experience value slicing - Adapt and pivot to evolving customer need challenges - Originate and iterate product designs, prototypes, and finished products - Experience MVP/test/learn cycles with both continuous and irregular feedback - Build your own workflow designed around the process you feel would best meet your needs - Self-organise in a light-touch big room planning exercise - Resolve cross-team dependencies to coordinate output and produce integrated delivery

Long synopsis (optional):
With an extended workshops slot, increasing the time box to 90 minutes, we can extend the simulation to include portfolio kanban based on Cost of Delay prioritisation. Session structure: The workshop is an interactive group workshop based around multiple teams building a single product. The work will be made transparent and a large kanban board where teams will use the board to represent progress they make. Participants will be able to gain hands-on experience of using a kanban then forward to manage product development flow. The learning unfolds across two rounds. Round one will see the teams build a single feature in a short time box to test the minimal viable product to stakeholders and customers. Are learning here is that gaining feedback on a small idea, you were able to tailor the product around the feedback and build the right solution rather than what you think the customer wants. The second round of the continuous flow for work where multiple teams will build the full product using a kanban board. The process incorporates build, feedback loops, integration and customer acceptance To set the teams at the success, before they commence round two, teams will enter a mini the grooming planning session where they will plan: - HOW they will build their part of the product. - HOW they will interact with teams they are dependent on. - HOW they will integrate the product ready for shipping. The exercised is designed to replicate elements of working at scale using, a kanban board over for a project plan to manage the work. The audience will be encouraged to voice their own observations, reflections and better ways of working, whilst the facilitators will aim to illustrate how to explain how the experience relates to agile practices and methods. The workshop has been extensively trialed and evolved in a large corporation with Self-organise feedback. Numbers have been up to 80 participants in any session. All material will be provided by us.
