Title:
Flow Versus Flow: The Power of Mob Programming - 45 minute talk
Short synopsis:
How can we possibly be productive with 5 or 6 people working at one computer? This is almost always the first question I'm asked about Mob Programming. At first, I had no idea, and yet we noticed that we were very effective when we worked as a team. Over time I've come to realize that the lean concept of flow is one likely explanation. This is a big shift from the way most teams are organized, and how their time and efforts are managed. I'll share my thinking and on this, and explore with you the idea of how flow optimizes for good results rather than for the output of individuals.

I'll share my thinking and on this, and explore with you the idea of how flow optimizes for good results rather than for the output of individuals. However, another sort of "flow", as named by Mihály Csíkszentmihályi is also an important concept. This sort of "flow" is the complete absorption in what one does; a mental state in which a person performing an activity is fully immersed in a feeling of energized focus, full involvement, and enjoyment in the process of the activity. This is important as well, and I'm going to explore and share some ideas about both of these concepts of flow.
