Talk description
Title:
Agile metrics that enable predictability and highlight improvement effort: an experience report.
Short synopsis:
Picture the scene, a product manager has just finished presenting the latest idea to senior stakeholders. The idea is based on analysis of the feedback generated by user behaviour. Everyone is excited by the opportunity, and then it happens, the question that dampens the sole of software engineering teams the world over... When can we have it in live? The product manager thinks, "have you seen the chaos out there? The team said it'll be a month, I know I'll double it." So the commitment is made, you'll have it in 8 weeks, I hope! If this scenario sounds familiar, then this talk is for you? I will take you through the process I used to implement a set of metrics enabling predictability and highlighting where to focus improvement effort. All you need is a process with a start and end date for user story progress. I'll show you how I mined the historical data to make probability based commitments to product managers, which were right 85% of the time :-). We no longer fear commitment, we relish it, you can too.
