Long synopsis (optional):
This session is a reflection on a terrible gig I took which pushed me way out of my comfort zone & left me burnt out, ready to leave the world of software development behind altogether. After stumbling across the term “followership”, I initially used it to justify my retreat into my comfort zone - I just want to be led for a while, let someone else take the helm whilst I sort my noggin out. After reading more into the topic, I’m discovering how powerful & neglected a term it actually is. As with most things, the term is more nuanced than it first appears, such as the different types of followers, their associated behaviours & the contexts in which they operate. Also, the myth that each of us can lead in all aspects of our lives - this just isn’t feasible! Takeaways: - What followership is - You can’t have leadership without followership - All leaders were once followers & still are in certain contexts - The different types of followers - Tips for being a great follower (e.g. grit, judgement, capability, transparency, courage, loyalty)
