Title:
There’s an Imposter on this beach!
Short synopsis:
Do you ever feel like you’re not as talented or as successful as others? Do you feel that you have tricked others into believing that you are more capable or knowledgeable than you are? I’m here to tell you that you’re not alone in these feelings and that you are a highly successful person who is impacted by Imposter Syndrome. Using my own experiences, I will be helping you to take off your imposter mask and break out of the imposter syndrome cycle.

Long synopsis (optional):
This session starts will begin by defining what Imposter Syndrome is through a short presentation, before discussing case studies and my own personal experiences, to demonstrate the different types of Imposter you may find in society. I will be discussing how the Imposter Syndrome behaviors are damaging, both physically and mentally, and how it can interfere with success. The second half of the session will be dedicated to giving practical advice on how to identify if you are an Imposter, how to overcome the feeling of being an Imposter, and how-to identify unhelpful Imposter behaviours. In 1974 two psychotherapists, kept experiencing the same type of personality in their sessions. A person who was highly successful, had good grades, promotions, and praise from peers, yet this person never felt content. Achievements were put down to luck or handouts. This was the foundational research for what we now know as Imposter Syndrome: A high achieving person who is not comfortable in their successes. Want to know if you or someone you know falls into this category? Then this session is for you. Using a questionnaire, you have the chance to identify Imposter Syndrome. After the questionnaire I will encourage, by leading a show of hands, the audience to participate who is/has experienced Imposter Syndrome. By demonstrating that the Imposters in the Room are not alone, I will then present on how to overcome Imposter Syndrome with easy steps, such as Imposter diaries and anxiety timeboxing, which can be practiced in-home or at work. I will explain a list of other Imposter busting techniques and encourage those in the room to take a method and use it the next time they feel like an Imposter. As a final practical activity, I will run an interactive exercise to help the room fight Imposter Syndrome and practice appreciation. By the end of the session, I will show that we can slowly overcome fear and anxiousness and be able to celebrate achievements and success.
