Talk description
Title:
Meet the Agile Saboteurs
Short synopsis:
Agile saboteurs appear without notice. Frequently they emerge from within large corporates, but can easily hide within public organisations and there are also many sightings in small startups. They can lurch in any part of the business, including within IT, and even from within one’s own team. This light hearted talk will describe some real life experiences (Chatham House) of the saboteurs, explore the dynamics, and discuss some techniques and approaches that can be used to neutralise the threat.

Long synopsis (optional):
Agile Saboteurs appear from within many types of organisations, in many guises, and commonly without a conscious motive to disrupt. It can be debated as to whether they consciously, or unconsciously disrupt IT projects, but what is certain is they will try their hardest to ruin a perfectly good project. Some of these saboteurs appear from legal departments, senior management, protective middle management, traditional project managers, and from team members with naïve experiences. This talk will describe some real life examples of Agile saboteuring (without names) and explore the motives driving the individuals involved. We’ll look at the negative effect on the project and how it degrades the agility of the project. Most importantly we will then talk about what approaches can be applied to overcome the actions, and then the solutions that can be employed to prevent such behaviour.
