Talk description
Title:
How to actually shift minds...
Short synopsis:
Short Synopsis: To have this great agile change we will simply «install» agile values in everybody and then everything will work like magic. Right? Well, I beg to differ. Change is difficult, and people behave the way they do for very good reasons. To actually influence mind-sets we need more than just preaching of values. This talk borrows from successful mind-shifting approaches like Alcoholics Anonymous and translates some of their learnings to lean and agile change initiatives.

Long synopsis (optional):
When people talk about “change” they often proclaim that it all starts with the values. There are even people who start a change initiative with holding "Agile Value Workshops", so that "we all share the same values." But that is actually not how the human mind (or human nature for that matter) works. People think and behave the way they do for very good reasons. Usually their behaviour got them where they are right now, and thus was functional to them. This session proposes to learn from those programs that have a mind-shift at their core, like Alcoholics Anonymous and other 12-Step programs. Combining the way these programs approach changing a mind-set with learning about habits from Charles Dhuigg, this session proposes an approach more based on practices, leveraging experiences and routines to gradually alter the behaviour of an organization.
