Talk description
Title:
A History of Agility in 12 Objects
Short synopsis:
This talk is a guided, opinionated, journey through a history of Agility, exploring far beyond the birth of the ‘Agile Manifesto’ in 2001. We make this journey because simply reverse-engineering that manifesto for “business agility” isn’t going to be good enough to meet the challenges of the next decade. We need to look beyond, for principles that will work at higher level and help us develop matching practices Fortunately, human history offers many lessons that could potentially be applied now, more broadly and in many contexts. Our objective is to (re-)discover some of these lessons, and share ideas around how that might happen. Our journey will take in ancient Greece, agrarian Austria, the birth of modern agile in 1986, and what the fruit fly can teach us about collaboration. For the business in which we work, we’ll discuss objects from this history that offer deeper insight into agility as a frame of mind and guiding light for productivity and effectiveness. For ourselves, we’ll discuss the human need for Agility, some personal challenges in achieving it, and the beauty of helping others have it. And because it’s our own time, we’ll have some fun along the way - please come prepared for discussion :-)
