Talk description
Title:
I am here for an argument – Working with conflict in teams
Short synopsis:
I work with teams all day long and there is one constant, conflict. We even have conflict with my wife and my family! Teams need disagreement to facilitate inspection and adaption, what if disagreement was an energy for creativity and transformation. Not only idealistic tools for dealing with our own animalistic nature when dealing with difficult people, I will share tools which have worked for me from listening better to practical agile tools to bring high conflict back to productive dialogue

Long synopsis (optional):
Extending on a presentation I worked on for a client in which I talked about collaboration and conflict in teams. Drawing on the work of • Lyssa Adkins (levels of conflict) • Monty Python(Argument sketch to make everyone laugh) • Retrospectives formats for high conflict individuals and teams (empathetic) • Stephen Covey (habits) • Patrick Lencioni and linking this to why conflict and disagreement are important • My Coaching stance - Listening modes with specific examples of how I have used these listening techniques to diffuse situations. Talking through some specific empathetic retrospectives which worked with teams in high conflict. Almost AA meeting retrospectives and why these worked or didn’t. Facilitation tips and tricks – intros, retro techniques (empathetic retros e.g green/red) Practical agile tips, fist of five, working agreements How to spot destructive conflict and conflict styles Setting a psychological safe environment Listenign reductive vs expansive (example at home with family) – beyond attack Hand drawn slides A case study in how i helped or tried to help a highly dysfunctional team become more productive and lower conflict levels.
