Talk description
Title:
Agile Games in Action
Short synopsis:
In our work with clients we facilitate a lot of workshops, seminars and training. We try to make all of these events as interactive as possible to reinforce learning through doing. Our favourite approach is to use Agile games. Attendees will not only experience three game for themselves, but also have the opportunity to learn how to deliver the games for their own purposes, whether that be as part of a team-building exercise, a workshop ice-breaker, or as part of an educational programme.

Long synopsis (optional):
We use these games all the time, are very experienced in their use, and regularly help others in ThoughtWorks or at a client learn how to use them for themselves. In this workshop we will introduce and play 3 different games that demonstrate a number of Agile principles and practices in action. The three games, with their key lessons, are: - Ball Game: Learn by doing, inspect and adapt, limited WIP, stable teams, self-organisation, team estimation - Cake Estimation: Relative sizing, and backlog ordering - The Fish: Self-organisation, empowerment, servant leadership, and team size Every participant will also receive a mini-guide as to how to facilitate the games for themselves, but it will also be quite acceptable for someone to just come along, learn, and have some fun. We expect the workshop to be very high-energy and a memorable experience for all!
