Talk description
Title:
Who are these Agile Masters?
Short synopsis:
Many people and roles in an Agile context believe that they are the “master” of something or someone. But, the notion of being an Agile “master” is often misunderstood, leading to tensions and poor performance for both Agile teams and stakeholders. This talk will start by asking the question “Who is a ‘master‘ in an Agile context?”, before exploring “What do they believe they are the master of?” and hence “What roles do they really need to perform?”

Long synopsis (optional):
In answer to these questions, Julian will also share his experiences of how misconceptions around the answers can surface, the challenges they typically bring, and some recommendations for how to avoid or manage them as they arise. Julian will also discuss what the mastery should be really be about, and how it is more important for these individuals to consider what function they provide to the Agile team. Finally, he will summarise the observations, challenges, and advice for anyone taking part in an Agile journey and the role transformations required if “mastery” is to be success.
