Title:
From manual testing and test automation to engineering quality systems: the future of QA
Short synopsis:
Thus far, QA has been classfied and conducted into two activities: 1) Manual testing: slow and yet not driving the desirable level of quality due to time constraint and software complexity. It's existence is creating Bystander Effect to developers, causing them not to be fully responsible for quality. 2) Test Automation: Fast and efficient yet not capturing valuable bugs and often has high cost of maintenance. It still relies on humans to maintain it, analyze its results, and report them for further decision. It's time to move one step ahead and talk about Systems rather than these separate activities and the teams doing them - to Engineer Quality Systems. Through Quality Systems, we map essential quality assurance activities to CI pipeline and engineer systems that seemlessly execute them throughout the CI pipleline and provide realtime detailed Quality Information. Information is the key aspect that we use at any moment to make decision about release and how software is performing.
