Talk description
Title:
How to form a Community
Short synopsis:
As a delivery function consisting of a number of business analysts we've been looking at how to improve ways of working and how we can greater influence the business. We are all for continuous improvement but a few years ago we realised we could be so much better and that something was missing. There was a lack of collaboration, people were working in silos and it wasn't always easy to ask for help. This session is about our journey at ao.com and how building communities of practise has helped us grow as a business analyst function.

Long synopsis (optional):
We've been on a journey for the past few years as a business and as a delivery function. As a function we've doubled in size over the past few years. The business has seen huge change and we have been able to support the different business areas more effectively at a greater breadth. Our delivery team consists of; programme managers, business analysts and project managers. All with different skills, experience and wants. We've been striving to find better ways of working together and with the business. A few years ago we felt something was missing, we weren't spending enough time with each other and weren't spending the time learning from each other. We decided to tackle this knowing what we know best - a good old retrospective! 2 years on, we have 2 thriving communities which are learning and developing together. In this session we'll explain: - Our journey as a delivery function - What we've done - What we've learnt (good and bad) - What tools we've used - How you can improve your own communities of practise - What's next for us?
