Talk description
Title:
Taking Agile to the Enterprise - strategy lessons from seven years in transformation.
Short synopsis:
Large-scale agile transformations are becoming more common as senior leadership teams want their enterprises across the land to "be Agile" or at least be seen to "be Agile". But what does that mean, why are you doing it, what are the risks, and what does that cost? A transformation is a large-scale change programme that is often assumed to be something much less significant or wide-reaching than it actually is. This session is aimed at agile change agents and leaders who are involved in adopting agile at an enterprise-wide level, and will discuss the strategy, culture, problems and opportunities of an agile transformation across the spectrum of a typical large organisation.

Long synopsis (optional):
This session explores some of the lessons Matt has learned from his experience in large agile programmes over the last ten years (including: BBC, Screwfix, Travis Perkins, Fidelity, William Hill, Office for National Statistics, & Vodafone). If you aren't familiar with the difference between agile adoption and agile transformation and you are involved in either, then this is for you. Equally if you would like to know why rolling out scrum in "Tech" is the wrong way to start your enterprise agile plans, again this will prove invaluable. There are a range of adoption strategies and patterns that Matt has seen repeatedly over the years which form the basis for this talk. This session will talk through the leading reasons that Agile transformations fail, and highlight that "being Agile" is a business and cultural transformation rather than simply a process change. Matt will describe the personal steps that employees and team members will go through to adjust to these new ways of thinking and working, as well as give starting points for a corporate transformation journey. Why do you need to start with HR for example, and what do rewards and recognition look like in the agile world? As well as this, the session will talk about what to look for when using agile change agents, as well as provide a solid view on whether large frameworks, tools or transformation plans actually add real value. The session will close with a dozen things to avoid when planning your own move to agility.
