Talk description
Title:
The Agile Bookshelf
Short synopsis:
Have you read a book that has changed your perspective, motivated you, opened your eyes or brought clarity to your thoughts? There are many very good books out there, but occasionally one can really change the direction of your life. Come and hear from a selection of speakers at the conference about the book that really spoke to them and how it affected them. And if you have a book like that, then bring it along. #AgileBookshelf

Long synopsis (optional):
This worked very well at Agile Manchester and Agile in the City: Bristol and seemed to be well received; with myself and 3 or 4 other attendees/speakers forming a 'panel' who are asked before hand to choose a book (if you had to choose one book which would it be?*). * = not including their own :) Allowing roughly 10 mins per speaker/book and asking each to give a lightning talk on why they chose the book, why it means so much to them and then take questions from the room or myself if required. The session should be interactive as possible, and effort was made to reduce the feeling of 'them and us' between the panel and audience (there wasn't a 'top table'). Any other books that get mentioned are written up on a flipchart (alongside the main ones) to produce a booklist. For myself I was given Bob Martin's Clean Code book some years ago and I regard it as pivotal to my career - giving me a personal brand and usp. Having presented this previously, we (deliberately) covered a broad range of books from clean code, technical practices, to coaching and psychology. I also ensured would need/aim to have a diverse panel. I would need some level of help from the organisers finding a panel, probably with identifying a balanced panel and an introduction to them. Kevlin Henney took part in Bristol, I'd be happy to have Allan or Belinda :)
