Questions of Scaling
Short synopsis:
This is a story about scaling with care. It’s a story about how our technology team at Bloom & Wild has grown. We’ve made plenty of mistakes along the way, learnt a lot of lessons and have iterated on what we do many times. We’ve got something that works for us now and this presentation is all about that journey and what we’ve learnt.

I’ll focus on: * Stories of how we’ve organised, re-organised, what worked and what didn’t but acted as great learning opportunities * The different stages of team growth and how we used various models to find the right structure for us * The challenges that we’ve faced, particularly around changing our organisation and structure. How different teams have matured at different levels and why this is ok * How transparency helps us to build and maintain team culture across the company * Change models and how we used them to help people understand the changes that they were going through as the teams they were in evolved * How we focus on people’s happiness as a primary indicator of progress * Building learning into our culture * How we use health checks, charters, happiness indicators and plenty of other activities to seek feedback from everyone * How we’ve automated the repetitive tasks, our obsession with bots, and how they support our culture, processes and teams, and enable us to move faster with happiness * How we avoid silos, and how that drives not only how we work but the technology choices that we make It's a talk about organisations and technology, and our use of technology internally to make us more efficient and give us time to focus on what we enjoy; building great tech that allows others to spread love in the world by sending and receiving flowers. Those in teams experience great change as teams scale, and can sometimes feel like things are totally out of their control. Hopefully the audience will take away some inspiration from my experiences, some useful hints and tips on what could work for them, and the confidence that, having applied the changes that I’ll describe, that they could also work for them.
