Talk description
Title:
The agnostic coder
Short synopsis:
Too many developers get fixated by a particular programming language, the latest trendy framework, the latest paradigm. But code lives a long time, far longer than we first imagine. As developers we will come across code written in all sorts of languages, and we will need to maintain it, and improve it. We must be able to be polyglots, be language agnostic, and to not choose what we code in based on CV Driven Design. The key is how we code, and applying XP practices, CLEAN code and SOLID principals, is more important than what we choose to use to communicate with our silicon masters.

Long synopsis (optional):
Too many developers get fixated by a particular programming language, the latest trendy framework, the latest paradigm. But code lives a long time, far longer than we first imagine. As developers we will come across code written in all sorts of languages, and we will need to maintain it, and improve it. We must be able to be polyglots, be language agnostic, and to not choose what we code in based on CV Driven Design. In this talk, I'll look at different programming languages through the ages and cover how we can apply the same good approaches and techniques to them. We'll cover the the basics of the four main paradigms (imperative, declarative, object-orientated and functional) and how we need to strive to not be wedded to the technology stack, but rather believers in delivering quality, appropriate code using the best technology fit for the task at hand.
