How can you increase your organizations and your own capacity to work and be agile? Being agile is not just a shift in mindset, but it is also a practice where emotional and social capacities need to be developed as well. In this interactive talk you can learn some personal practices that will help you to better deal with change and uncertainty, thus supporting you to be more agile. These practices are inspired by the Search Inside Yourself leadership seminar developed within Google.

Agile is not only about tools and processes - most of us like to add the word "mindset" to the mix. I argue that mindset is still not enough, because agile is not just about understanding, but also about dealing with our emotions in a useful way. For example Agile needs the capacity to deal with uncertainty and change, which especially in the beginning feels unpleasant. It requires the skill to repeatedly let go and embrace what is new while the new stuff is still quite unknown. This is mostly an emotional competence and - if it is lacking - it is often a major and mostly invisible barrier in embracing agile ways of working. It is invisible because people don't say that they are scared or confused, they rather find "good reasons" while agile might not work in their case or simply do not support it at all with their actions. So how can we systematically and effectively develop these capacities in as many people as possible in an organization? I believe we need a continous practice of developing emotional and social skills within us and in our organization. I will present how some of those practices could look like, partly using elements of the Search Inside Yourself seminar - a two day science-based approach to develop mindfulness and emotional intelligence especially for knowledge workers in complex, agile environments. This leadership seminar has been developed within Google. And it will not just be me presenting but we will also do a few short exercises - so you can try out those practices hands-on and take them home with you.
