Title:
From mob programming to mob development: why, how and what we learned
Short synopsis:
When we early 2017 we were given the order to build a new sports experience for SVT's ≈3 million weekly users we wanted to find a better, more efficient, way of working. We decided to bet on the mob. But not only to write code in the mob, but to mob basically everything. From prioritisation to discovery to delivery to anything. The sports team became a social experiment within the field of agile methodology. Would this be a viable way of working? This talk is about what and how we did it – and about what we learned along the way.

Long synopsis (optional):
For some time we had had problems with transparency, redundancy and communication building SVT's online sports service. To top it off the work was also set up with a back end team in-house and a client team at an external agency. This resulted in long delivery times, unclear scope and loads of money wasted. When we were given the mission to build a better sports service we wanted to change that. When considering the options we decided to set up a team based on collaboration, mob and Lean UX-principles. The sports team became not only a social experience, but also served as a pilot for how to increase shared understanding within a team – and how to find ways to increase effectivity. All this by focusing on what can only be described as a ”true single piece flow”. Working in this way is of course no silver bullet and won't fit all teams or products. But we did some interesting findings – and our bet paid off. Big time.
