Make it a thing! - The practice of software architecture
Short synopsis:
What is “architecture”? What is it that “Architects Do”? Doesn’t “Agile” suggest that we don’t need architects, and the architecture just emerges? And what on earth is “Enterprise Architecture” Anyway? Answers to these questions and more will be in this talk, including the question “Do I need to code to be an architect?”

Long synopsis (optional):
Drawn from the speakers 20 years trying to build and architect software, the talk will present a personal view of what architecture is and key practices that you may find helpful. We will begin with a brief discussion on what architecture is, what the practice of architecture means and what the role of an architect is. We will talk about the relationship between the technical practices of XP and architecture and explore how architecture relates to agile teams. Finally, we will explore key practices that you can take with you to your teams, whether or not you are formally in an “architect” role. These include how to get architecture to happen, decision making and recording, what are principles and how to use them, visual representations, cross functional requirements and architectural reviews and code analysis.
